ST. PAUL, Minn. – After over 30 years at Macalester College, Associate Director of Athletics Vanessa Seljeskog has announced that she will retire following the end of the 2016-17 academic year.

Seljeskog has been the Associate Director of Athletics for the past 16 years after serving as the Assistant Athletics Director for 10 years. She also coached the Scots' women's cross country team from 1986 to 2000. As the Associate AD, Seljeskog oversees NCAA compliance and eligibility for Macalester's 21 intercollegiate athletics programs while also coordinating the club sports program and the Physical Education curriculum. She also organizes the Mac Hac golf fundraiser and has served on numerous departmental committees. During her time at Macalester, she assisted in the planning of the $45 million Leonard Center, oversaw the $1.5 million renovation of the track complex, and has organized and managed numerous MIAC championships and NCAA postseason events.

As coach of the women's cross country team, Seljeskog guided numerous All-Americans and All-MIAC athletes. She was named the 1999 MIAC Cross Country Coach of the Year and led the Scots to an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. Additionally, Seljeskog was the co-meet director for the 1998 and 2002 NCAA Division III National Track and Field Championships, held at Macalester, and has served as host of the MIAC Cross Country and Track Championships numerous times.

Seljeskog has served on several Macalester College and MIAC committees, is currently the AD liaison to the MIAC men's and women's track and cross country coaches group, and previously served on and chaired the NCAA Division III Track and Field subcommittee. She also has been the MIAC golf AD liaison and chaired the MIAC SWA committee. Seljeskog has been a longtime member of NACWAA (a graduate of the NACWAA/HERS Institute), NADIIIA and the Haverford Group, and through the NCAA Ethnic Minority and Women's Internship program has served to mentor or supervise many NCAA intern grant recipients.  In February of 2009 Seljeskog was honored with a Special Merit award during the 23rd Annual Minnesota Girls and Women in Sport Day celebration at the state capitol.

"Vanessa's work and commitment over the past 30 years at Macalester has truly been about her passion, leadership, and engagement in all aspects of the student experience and the Macalester community," Macalester Director of Athletics Kim Chandler said. "She is a respected leader and colleague, and her insight, experiences and intellect in serving our student athletes and coaches have been exemplary. It has truly been outstanding for me to have had the opportunity to work with her over the past nine years. We will certainly miss her perspectives and her friendship, but we wish her all the best."
