MIAC Football Athletes-of-the-Week - Oct. 7, 2013

MIAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week

Jeffrey Dubose, Gustavus
St. Paul, Minn. / St. Croix Lutheran

The Gustavus offense delivered its second-straight explosive performance in Saturday's 52-7 win over Hamline. Leading the way was senior Jeffrey Dubose (St. Paul, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran), who put up huge numbers out of the backfield. The Gustie running back racked up 215 total yards and scored five touchdowns to lead his team to the win. For his performance, Dubose was named the MIAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week.

Dubose was great in the running game, racking up 200 yards on 16 carries for a robust average of 12.5 yards per carry with four rushing touchdowns. Two of his scoring runs were from 57 and 28 yards out. Dubose also caught two passes for 15 yards and another touchdown. Dubose is currently second in the MIAC in rushing yards (601) and rushing yards per game (150.2). His 11 rushing touchdowns are five more than anyone else in the league, and his 12 total TDs and 72 points both lead the MIAC by wide margins.

Thanks to Saturday's victory, the Gusties improved to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Currently Gustavus is among a group of six MIAC teams with either one or no losses. The Gusties and Dubose face one of their toughest tests of the season Saturday when they host No. 6-ranked St. Thomas in St. Peter, Minn., at 1 p.m.

MIAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week

Josh Treimer, Bethel
Burnsville, Minn. / Burnsville

The Bethel football team emerged victorious Saturday in its toughest test to date - a 31-28 victory over Augsburg in a showdown of undefeated teams. The Royals defense slowed the Auggies enough to prevail, with senior Josh Treimer (Burnsville, Minn.) leading the way. The defensive back led the Royals in tackles and forced a fumble as the Royals contained Augsburg's prolific offense. For his performance, Treimer was named the MIAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the second time this season.

Treimer made 10 total tackles in Saturday's win - seven solo and three assists - and jarred loose one forced fumble. Treimer helped Bethel limit the Auggies to just 14 points over the game's first three quarters, then hold off a late Augsburg charge for the crucial three-point win. This season, Treimer shares the MIAC lead with three interceptions to go along with 19 total tackles, one forced fumble and two pass breakups.

Thanks to the win, the Royals remained unbeaten at 4-0 (2-0 MIAC), one of just two conference teams without a loss. Bethel - ranked as high as No. 5 - faces the league's other unbeaten in a huge showdown Saturday when they travel to Moorhead to take on No. 18-ranked Concordia. The Royals' second-straight MIAC game against an unbeaten foe kicks off Saturday at 1 p.m.

MIAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week

Andrew O'Reilly, Bethel
Lakeville, Minn. / South

The Bethel football team held on to win a battle of undefeated teams Saturday, knocking off Augsburg by a field goal on its home field. That field goal was delivered by sophomore Andrew O'Reilly (Lakeville, Minn./South), who was also perfect on his extra points and good on kickoffs to help the Royals score the big win. For his performance, the kicker was named the MIAC Football Special Team Player-of-the-Week for the second-consecutive week.

O'Reilly was 4-for-4 on PATs and his 31-yard field goal in the third quarter proved to be the final margin of victory to help Bethel remain undefeated. O'Reilly also averaged 56 yards per kickoff to help the Royals in the field-position battle. Since stepping in as Bethel's kicker, O'Reilly has racked up 21 points and ranks fifth in the conference in scoring among kickers. He's 18-for-20 on PATs and 1-for-2 on field goals.
