Omaha, Neb. / Mount Michael Benedictine
The Saint John's men's cross country team performed on an exceptionally big stage Saturday, and both the team and star junior Thomas Feichtinger (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) rose to the occasion. Feichtinger and the Johnnies both finished fourth overall and No. 1 among MIAC runners and teams at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota Saturday at Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn. For his performance, Feichtinger was honored Tuesday by the MIAC sports information directors with the MIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete-of-the-Week award.
Feichtinger completed the 8k course in 26:48.8 to finish fourth overall in a field of 235 runners and finished less than a minute behind the winner. Feichtinger was the first MIAC runner across the finish line in the Division III Maroon race at the Griak Invite. He led Saint John's to a fourth-place finish and a total of 124 points in a field of 17 teams, and the best finish out of the six MIAC teams in the field.
After their big performance at the Roy Griak, Feichtinger and the Tommies will get a short break before their next competition. Saint John's is idle this weekend and will return to action on Oct. 11, when they visit the Twin Cities for the St. Catherine University 4k Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. The race will begin that day at 11:10 a.m. SJU has just two races left before the MIAC Championships on Nov. 1.
