Drama was abound at the St. Kate's Invite in St. Paul, with Saint John's and junior star Thomas Feichtinger (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) both pulling out dramatic victories over a pair of MIAC rivals. Feichtinger ran to the individual win with just three seconds between him and the runner-up, while leading the Johnnies to a narrow victory among a trio of regionally-ranked MIAC foes. For his performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Feichtinger Tuesday with his second MIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete-of-the-Week award of the 2014 season.

Feichtinger crossed the finish line at the end of the 4k race in 12:19, narrowly defeating Hamline's Ryan Peterson by just three seconds thanks to an outstanding late push. Feichtinger scored his victory in a talented field of 75 runners. He led a group of five Johnnies in the top 10, as SJU scored 32 points to win the race, to narrowly defeat St. Thomas (46) and Hamline (52). All three are closely ranked in the USTFCCCA Central Region Rankings, with St. Thomas at No. 6, Saint John's at No. 7 and Hamline at No. 8.

The Johnnies and their star junior will be back in action Saturday for their final tune-up prior to the 2014 MIAC Championships. Saint John's will compete in the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Tori Neubauer Invitational in Etrrick, Wis., Saturday at 10:30 a.m. SJU will then take a weekend off to prepare for the MIAC meet, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, at Como Golf Course in St. Paul, Minn.
