Seattle, Wash. / Roosevelt
The Carleton men's cross country team
traveled to Wisconsin to run in a huge meet with top-notch
competition, and came away with a tremendous team performance.
Junior star Hart Hornor (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) led the way with
a top-10 individual finish at the UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational,
helping the Knights to a top 13 team finish among a loaded field of
nationally-ranked Division II and III teams. For his performance,
the MIAC sports information directors honored Hornor Tuesday with
his third MIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete-of-the-Week award of the
2014 season.
Hornor completed the course in 24:47.1, and he was the
10th overall runner and sixth Division III runner to cross the
finish line. His 10th place finish came among a field of 664
runners, and the Knights were 13th overall in a field of 45 teams
that included 14 nationally-ranked D-II and D-III teams, including
four top 10-ranked squads. The Knights finished ahead of No.
13-ranked Johns Hopkins and No. 26 Chicago. Hornor's great fall
includes back-to-back MIAC Athlete-of-the-Week awards on Sept. 9
and 16.
Hornor and the Knights will take this weekend off to rest
up for the biggest meet of the fall thus far - the 2014 MIAC Men's
Cross Country Championships. The conference meet will be held at
Como Golf Course in St. Paul, Minn., on Saturday, Nov. 1, with the
men's race starting at 2:15 p.m. The Carleton men will enter the
MIAC Championships ranked fourth in the Central Region and the
Knights received one vote in the USTFCCA national
rankings.
