BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) is set to begin its 2019 cross country season with men's and women's teams back in action this weekend.

MIAC teams will compete in more than 40 meets combined over the next two months in preparation for the 2019 MIAC Cross Country Championships at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. It will be the first time in MIAC history that the Knights will host the conference meet on their own campus. The 2019 Championships are set for Saturday, November 2. The Knights won both the men's and women's MIAC Championships in 2018, marking the first time since 1991 that one school has repeated as conference champions in both races.

Three men's teams (No. 9 Carleton, No. 28 St. Olaf, and No. 31 St. Thomas) and three women's teams (No. 6 Carleton, No. 19 St. Thomas, and No. 26 St. Olaf) received national attention this week in the first U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top 40 rankings of 2019. The USTFCCCA released its men's and women's regional rankings on Tuesday and its men's and women's national rankings on Wednesday. Twenty of last season's 30 All-Conference runners (10 men and 10 women) are anticipated back on the course this season, along with 28 All-Region honorees.

Leading up to the 2019 Championships, the MIAC will also honor outstanding individual performances each Tuesday with the announcement of the men's and women's cross country Athletes of the Week. Weekly selections will begin on Tuesday, September 3.

Additionally, the MIAC will celebrate its 100-year anniversary throughout the 2019-20 season. The conference's Centennial celebration will highlight the many outstanding moments, memories, and individuals who helped build the MIAC over the last century. Initiatives will include student-athlete, coach, and administrator spotlights, historical photos showcasing the evolution of MIAC sports and teams through the years, recognition of former MIAC student-athletes who continued their time in the conference as coaches and administrators, and more. The official #MIAC100 webpage will be housed at https://www.miacathletics.com/miac100.
