BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – While several Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) track and field programs got a jump start on the indoor season back in December, the schedule turns into an eight-week grind on Friday, as conference teams begin competition for 2020.
MIAC runners, leapers, and throwers will compete in more than 30 meets combined over the next two months in preparation for the 2020 MIAC Championships hosted in Collegeville, Minn. by the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University. The Championships are set for February 27-29, 2020. The University of St. Thomas is the defending MIAC champion for both the men's and women's meets.
Leading up to the 2020 Championships, the MIAC will honor outstanding individual performances each Tuesday with the announcement of the men's and women's indoor track and field Athletes of the Week. Weekly selections will begin on Tuesday, January 14.
Additionally, the MIAC will continue to celebrate its 100-year anniversary throughout the 2019-20 season. The conference's Centennial celebration will highlight the many outstanding moments, memories, and individuals who helped build the MIAC over the last century. Initiatives will include student-athlete, coach, and administrator spotlights, historical photos showcasing the evolution of MIAC sports and teams through the years, recognition of former MIAC student-athletes who continued their time in the conference as coaches and administrators, and more. The official #MIAC100 webpage will be housed at https://www.miacathletics.com/miac100.
