MIAC Athletes of the Week - November 22, 2022

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for swimming & diving Tuesday. Student-athletes from Gustavus, St. Catherine, and Saint John's claimed the Conference's weekly honors for November 15-21, 2022.

The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the winter season, team sports (basketball and hockey) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (swimming & diving) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week
Matt Strom
Gustavus Adolphus College

Matt Strom took first place in four of his five events at the Gusties' Grace Goblirsch Invite on 11/19. Strom took first in the 200 free at 1:45.24, first in the 200 back at 2:01.24, first in the 500 free at 4:46.19, first in the 400 free relay at 3:11.98, and second 200 medley relay 1:37.51.

Saint John's University

Eli Grabinski won both the 1- (426.20) and 3-meter (421.45) diving competitions to help the Johnnies finish second as a team at Gustavus' Grace Goblirsch Invitational on 11/19.


MIAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week
Emma Svendsen
St. Catherine University

Emma Svendsen claimed victory in the 400 individual medley (4:33.84) and placed second in the 200 back (2:07.69), 200 individual medley (2:11.97), and 100 free (54.62) at the Luther Invitational last weekend. Svendsen also swam on the Wildcats' four victorious relay teams in the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.25), 400 medley relay (3:58.36), 200 medley relay (1:48.59), and 400 freestyle relay (3:34.90). The 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams both set pool records in their wins.

Kaija Pratt won both the 1- and 3-meter diving events at the Gusties' Grace Goblirsch Invitational over the weekend. Pratt scored 381.80 off the 1-meter board and 361.30 in the 3-meter competition.
