MIAC Athletes of the Week - December 6, 2022

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for swimming & diving Tuesday. Student-athletes from Gustavus, Macalester, St. Catherine, and St. Olaf claimed the Conference's weekly honors for November 28 - December 5, 2022.

The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the winter season, team sports (basketball and hockey) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (swimming & diving) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week
Charles Batsaikhan
Macalester College

Charles Batsaikhan won three individual events and swam on a school-record relay team to help the Scots win the five-team Roger Ahlman Invitational. He won the 200-yard individual medley (1:59.92), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:09.64), and the 100-yard breaststroke (58.09). His 100 breaststroke time is a new program record and the fastest in the MIAC this season. He also helped the 400-yard medley relay team win with a time of 3:35.43, also program record.

MIAC Men's Diving Athlete of the Week
Andrew Jensen
Gustavus Adolphus College

Andrew Jensen helped the Gusties win their fifth consecutive championship at the Grinnell Pioneer Classic over the weekend. Jensen won both the 3-meter and 1-meter dives with totals of 419.60 and 430.50 points, respectively.


MIAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week
Jordyn Wentzel
St. Catherine University

Jordyn Wentzel secured two lifetime best finishes, including a program and MIAC record in the 400-yard individual medley at Macalester's Roger Ahlman Invitational. Individually, Wentzel swam the 400 IM in a Division III best time of 4:17.50 and won the 500 freestyle with an NCAA B standard of 4:56.65. She also helped the Wildcats to victory in the 200 medley relay (1:47.48), 200 freestyle relay (1:40.04), and 400 freestyle relay (3:32.77).

MIAC Women's Diving Athlete of the Week
Izzy Treanor
St. Olaf College

Izzy Treanor qualified for NCAA Regionals by meeting the standards on both boards at last weekend's Rochester Invitational. The junior was the top NCAA Division III finisher in both the 1-meter diving (2nd, 419.20) and 3-meter diving (3rd, 409.40) and posted the top scores in the MIAC on both boards this season at the meet.
