BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for swimming & diving and indoor track & field Tuesday. Student-athletes from Bethel, Gustavus, Hamline, St. Catherine, and St. Olaf claimed the Conference's weekly honors for January 17-23, 2023.
The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the winter season, team sports (basketball, hockey) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (swimming & diving, indoor track & field) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week

Tim Rizzo won all three of his individual events and swam on a first-place relay in the Oles' dual victory over Macalester on 1/21. The senior won the 200-yard freestyle by nearly five seconds (1:46.62), the 500-yard freestyle by nearly 23 seconds (4:50.29), and the 400-yard individual medley by more than 12 seconds (4:18.41), while also being part of the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:38.97).

Andrew Jensen led all MIAC divers at the Point Invitational over the weekend, scoring 405.70 off the 1-meter board and 457.85 off the 3-meter board. He placed second in the 11-dive 3-meter competition and fifth in the 11-dive 1-meter.
MIAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week

Emma Svendsen helped the Wildcats to a runner-up showing at the Grinnell Inviational last weekend. Svendsen registered the 28th-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season to win the 400 individual medley with a lifetime-best time of 4:30.88. Svendsen also placed third individually in the 50-yard freestyle (24.99) and swam on the first-place 200 medley relay team (1:45.16). She also clocked a 100 back split time of 57.86 that leads the MIAC and a 100 free time of 53.54 that ranks third.

Courtney Broyles broke the Pipers' 1-meter diving program record with a 465.00 over 11 attempts, and a 275.60 over six dives at the Point Invite on 1/21. Broyles registered a second-place mark of 395.40 in the 3-meter dive.

Landen Liu finished first in the 60-meter dash in his collegiate debut with a 6.80 time at the Vanessa Seljeskog Classic on 1/21, breaking the program, meet, facility, and MIAC record in the event. The time ranks sixth in NCAA Division III this season.

Lucas Kramarczuk recorded the MIAC's top mark in the triple jump this season by more than one meter with a jump of 13.97 meters (45-10.00) at the Vanessa Seljeskog Classic on 1/21. The mark ranks 19th in NCAA Division III this season and bettered his fifth-best mark on St. Olaf's all-time list.

Christine Albrecht won both the one-mile run and the 1,000-meter run at the Vanessa Seljeskog Classic on 1/21, including running the country's second-fastest mile of the season. The senior's winning time of 4:55.83 in the mile was just five one-hundredths of a second shy of the fastest time in NCAA Division III. Albrecht posted the MIAC's top times in both events and both times ranked in the top five on St. Olaf's all-time indoor list.

Madi Kes had a career day at the Vanessa Seljeskog Classic on 1/21. Kes won the triple jump with a distance of 11.70, breaking the previous meet record she set last season. Kes' jump also broke the Gustavus program record and is the seventh-best distance in NCAA Division III this season.
