MIAC Athletes of the Week - February 14, 2023

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for swimming & diving and indoor track & field Tuesday. Student-athletes from Carleton, Gustavus, Saint Benedict, and Saint John's claimed the Conference's weekly honors for February 8-13, 2023.

The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the winter season, team sports (basketball, hockey) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (swimming & diving, indoor track & field) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Diving Athlete of the Week
Connor Reed

Connor Reed turned in the top 11-dive scores off both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards at the Northfield Diving Invite last weekend. Reed scored 455.75 on the 1-meter board and 489.05 on the 3-meter.


MIAC Women's Diving Athlete of the Week

Emily Quill qualified for NCAA Regionals at the Northfield Diving Invite by registering a score of 436.15 to win the 11-dive competition off the 1-meter board.


MIAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

Tyler Smith raced the 1,200-meter leg of the Distance Medley Relay at the Minnesota State University Massive Meet #1 on 2/10, clocking a split of 3:09 which resulted in breaking a 13-year-old program record with a total time of 10:16.00. The time ranks first in the MIAC and 18th in NCAA Division III this season. The next day, Smith took first in the 600-meter at the CSB/SJU Invite with a personal best time of 1:23.47, ranking second in the MIAC and eighth in program history. Smith also ran a 52.41 split in the 4x400 relay which placed second at the meet.

MIAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

Joe Charbonneau improved his season-best height to 4.65 meters (15' 3") with a win in the pole vault at the Johnnies' home invitational in Collegeville on 2/10. The mark is good for 27th in NCAA Division III this season.


MIAC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Clara Mayfield
Carleton College

Clara Mayfield posted a pair of national top-3 times while competing in two meets last weekend. Mayfield placed fourth overall and third in NCAA Division III this season in the 3,000-meter run with an adjusted time of 9:32.00 at the Minnesota State University Massive Meet #1 on 2/10. She followed that up with a victory in the mile run at the Meet of the Hearts, where her adjusted time of 4:50.90 also ranks No. 3 in D-III this year and was good for more than an eight-second margin of victory.

Ally Rakow

Ally Rakow cleared 1.58 meters (5' 2.25") to win the high jump at the CSB/SJU Invite on 2/11, marking the best height in the MIAC this season and eighth-highest in school history. Rakow also ran the second leg of the 4x200 relay that took second place at the meet and ranks second in the MIAC this season. Rakow then ran an 8.33 in the 60-meter dash to claim ninth place overall.
