MIAC announces 2022-23 Men’s Hockey awards

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its award honorees for the 2022-23 Men’s Hockey season on Thursday.

St. Scholastica junior forward Arkhip Ledenkov and junior goaltender Jack Bostedt were selected by MIAC head coaches as the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, while Concordia first-year forward Joe Harguindeguy was named Rookie of the Year. St. Scholastica head coach Dave Williams was recognized by his peers with Coach of the Year honors.

Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus | Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya) was voted MIAC Offensive Player of the Year. The junior tallied 37 points in conference games, the most since Steve Aronson – a Division III Player of the Year and the first player signed in Minnesota Wild franchise history – posted 49 in 1999-00. Ledenkov scored 13 goals and assisted on 24 – the most helpers in MIAC games in nearly a quarter-century. He is the first St. Scholastica player to be named MIAC Offensive Player of the Year for men's hockey.

Bostedt (Janesville, Wis. | Janesville Craig) was selected MIAC Defensive Player of the Year after leading the conference in both saves and save percentage in 2022-23. Bostedt stopped a total of 476 shots in MIAC games, averaging 31.7 saves per contest in his 15 appearances. He also led all MIAC goaltenders with a save percentage of 0.921 on the season. Bostedt is the first St. Scholastica player to be named MIAC Defensive Player of the Year for men's hockey.

Harguindeguy (La Habra, Calif.) was named MIAC Rookie of the Year. The first-year forward had 15 points in as many games for the Cobbers and registered four multiple-point games in his debut season. He is the first Concordia men’s hockey player to earn individual MIAC postseason honors since Jacob Stephan earned Co-Player of the Year honors following the 2019-20 season.

Williams (Second Season) was celebrated by his peers with MIAC Men’s Hockey Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Saints to a 13-1-2 record in conference play and the school’s first MIAC regular season championship in any sport. Williams’ squad averaged nearly five goals scored per conference contest this season and posted an average margin of victory of 2.1 on the year. Williams is the first St. Scholastica head coach in any sport to receive MIAC Coach of the Year honors.

In addition to individual awards, MIAC coaches also selected 20 players All-Conference with six more receiving honorable mention distinction. All awards were nominated by and voted on by the nine MIAC head men’s hockey coaches and only statistics from MIAC contests were considered for conference honors; any nominated player not selected as All-Conference but still receiving votes from at least three coaches was named honorable mention.

Eight of the 20 players named All-Conference in 2023 were also selected in 2022, while Saint John’s Auggie Moore received the honor for the third times in his career.

The MIAC also announced the inaugural All-Playoff Team for men’s hockey, which recognized the top eight performers from the conference tournament, as selected by playoff-participant head coaches.
