ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The 2023 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships are set to get underway on Friday, as twelve women's teams from around the league will compete in the two-day meet held at Bethel University in Arden Hills, Minn.

The MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships officially kicked off last week with the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon competitions held at Carleton College. This weekend's action will begin on Friday afternoon with field events starting at 2:00 p.m. and track events beginning at 2:30 p.m. Saturday's events are scheduled for a noon start with the final set of events - the women's and men's 4x400 relay - running at 5:10 p.m.

The MIAC has a homepage dedicated to the 2023 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, complete with the event schedule, entries, heat sheets, and links to follow the action via webcast and real-time results. Results and recaps of the Championships will be made available throughout the event.
General admission tickets are $10 for adults and $2 for students (with ID). Children ages 5 and under will be admitted free of charge. Tickets can be purchased at the venue.

HANDING OUT THE HARDWARE
MIAC championship plaques will be presented to the first-place women's and men's teams at the conclusion of the meet on Saturday afternoon. Gustavus is the defending champion on the women's side. The Gusties won their first-ever women's conference title in 2022. In addition to team awards, the top three finishers in each event will automatically earn All-Conference honors, while the fourth-through-sixth place finishers will be named Honorable Mention.
Individual awards will be voted on by coaches following the meet and will be announced - along with the complete list of All-Conference and honorable mention recipients - next week.

NATIONAL NOTABLES
Bethel senior Kelsie Sealock (Plymouth, Minn. | Osseo) recorded a 100-hurdle time of 13.98 (4/7), good for the tenth-fastest in D-III this season.
Carleton senior Clara Mayfield (Manhattan, Kan.) has the third-fastest 10K time in D-III this season at 34:08.69 (4/13). She also ranks fourth in the 1,500 meters at 4:27.44 (5/3), and fifth in the 5K with a time of 16:28.16 (4/26).
Gustavus senior Birgen Nelson (Edina, Minn.) has the top 100-hurdle time in NCAA Division III this season at 13.32 (5/3). She also ranks second in the 400 hurdles at 1:00.19 (5/3) and ninth in the 100-meter dash at 11.91 (4/26).
Gustavus senior Annika Poe (Big Lake, Minn.) ranks third in Division III this season with a shot put distance of 14.74 meters (48' 4.5") (5/3).
Saint Benedict junior Fiona Smith (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia) ranks second in NCAA Division III this season in the 10K (33:23.89 on 4/12), 5K (16:05.43 on 4/26), and 1,500-meter (4:25.51 on 5/3).
St. Catherine senior Bryana Leverentz (Andover, Minn.) logged the seventh-best javelin throw in D-III this season at 43.33 meters (142' 2") on 5/6.
AROUND THE MIAC
Augsburg first-year Allison Hookom (Andover, Minn. | Anoka) competed in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes at the Meet of the UnSaintly on 5/5, placing second with a time of 59.06 seconds in the 400 and fourth with a time of 26.79 seconds in the 200.
Bethel senior Kelsie Sealock (Plymouth, Minn. | Osseo) won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.74 (4.4 wind) at the Meet of the UnSaintly on 5/5 to set a new program record in the event. Sealock also placed second in the javelin throw with a distance of 33.13 meters (108' 8").
Carleton senior Clara Mayfield (Manhattan, Kan.) broke the program record for the 1,500-meter run while earning second place at the Joe Sweeney Invitational on 5/3. Mayfield raced the 1,500-meter distance for the first time in more than a year and crossed the line at 4:27.44, slicing nearly eight seconds off her personal best and registering the No. 4 time in Division III this season.
Concordia senior Peyton Selle (Dickinson, N.D.) earned runner-up honors in the heptathlon at the 2023 MIAC Multis on 5/4-5. Selle did not finish lower than fifth in any of the seven events and placed second in four of them. She has now finished first or second in each of the last five MIAC multi-event championships.
Gustavus senior Birgen Nelson (Edina, Minn.) shattered the NCAA Division III 100-hurdles record in the preliminary round of the Maverick Open on 5/3 with an all-conditions time of 13.32. Nelson clocked a 13.62 in the finals to win the event. Nelson also set new facility and meet records in the 400-hurdles with a time of 1:00.19. That time ranks first in the MIAC and second in Division III this season.
Hamline senior Alexandra Maddux (Moorhead, Minn.) was the top NCAA Division III finisher in the women's 800 meter run at the Joe Sweeney Invitational on 5/3 with a time of 2:13.39, good for second place overall at the meet. That time also ranks 22nd in NCAA Division III this season.
Macalester senior Journey Amundson (Iron River, Wis. | Northwestern) recorded a personal best triple jump mark of 11.96 meters (39' 3") at the Scots’ Rider/Bolstorff Invitational on 4/29. Her mark ranks first in the MIAC and 14th in NCAA Division III this season. It also broke the 13-year-old program record of 11.81 meters (38' 8.75"). Amundson's long jump distance of 5.42 meters (17' 9.5") at the Joe Sweeney Invitational on 5/3 is the third-best in the MIAC this spring.
Saint Benedict junior Fiona Smith (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia) broke her own program mark in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:25.51 at the Tommie Twilight on 5/3. She now has set school records in the 1,500 meters, 5,000 meters, and 10,000 meters this outdoor season.
St. Catherine senior Bryana Leverentz (Andover, Minn.) claimed top honors in the javelin throw at the Ole Open on 5/6 with a mark of 43.33 meters (142' 2"), putting her in seventh overall on the Division III performance list. Leverentz holds the top mark in the MIAC and is now third all-time for the Wildcats.
Saint Mary’s junior Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.) led the way for the Cardinals at the Rider/Bolstorff Invitational, placing second in the pole vault (3.60m, 11' 9.75") and seventh in the 400 (1:02.75). Her pole vault distance is tied for the best mark in the MIAC this year.
St. Olaf senior Christine Albrecht (San Jose, Calif. | Valley Christian) finished third in the 1,500-meter run at the Joe Sweeney Invitational on 5/3 in 4:31.85, which ranks 19th nationally and fifth on the Oles' all-time list. She then won the 800-meter run in 2:14.65 at the Ole Open on 5/6, which ranks seventh on St. Olaf's all-time list. Both times are third in the MIAC this season.
St. Scholastica junior Lily Beneke (Green Isle, Minn. | Sibley East) set the all-time MIAC record in the hammer throw with a distance of 54.28 meters (178' 1") at the Maverick Open on 5/3. Beneke has not placed lower than fourth in the event all season and has won the hammer at three of her last four meets.
