Saint Benedict wins MIAC Volleyball Playoff Championship

ST. PAUL, Minn. – For the third time in program history, the Saint Benedict Bennies are volleyball playoff champions of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).

No. 4 Saint Benedict rolled to a 3-0 victory over No. 2 St. Catherine in the 2024 MIAC Playoff Championship match on Saturday night in St. Paul.

The win secured Saint Benedict the MIAC's automatic qualifier to the 2024 NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament for the third time in program history and the first time since 2017. The Bennies are headed to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since clinching an at-large berth in 2019.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-CSB claimed the first set, 25-22, took the second frame, 25-18, and won the third, 25-14.
-Saint Benedict setter Audrey Spolidoro posted a match-high 35 assists and added 12 digs for a double-double. Spolidoro hit .500 in the match.
-St. Catherine’s Madison Fagan led all players with 11 kills while hitting .556 and finishing with 1.5 total blocks.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
-With the victory, Saint Benedict advances to the NCAA Tournament for the 24th time in program history.
-The Bennies have now won three MIAC Volleyball Playoff titles, with victories in 2009, 2017, and 2024.
-Saint Benedict has won seven straight matches heading into the NCAA Tournament.

-Saint Benedict received the MIAC Playoff championship plaque and the conference's automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament.
-The 2024 NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament will consist of 64 teams - 43 automatic qualifiers and 21 at-large berths. Gustavus led all MIAC teams in the NCAA Power Index (NPI) heading into Saturday at No. 50. St. Catherine was next at No. 61.
-The NCAA will announce the national tournament field during its annual selection show on NCAA.com at noon on Monday, November 18.
-The nine-player MIAC All-Playoff Team will be selected by playoff-participating coaches and announced on Monday.
