MIAC Athletes of the Week - November 5, 2024

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for swimming & diving on Tuesday. Student-athletes from Gustavus, Saint Benedict, and Saint John's claimed the Conference's weekly honors.

The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Transitioning to the winter season, team sports (football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and hockey) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (swimming & diving and indoor track & field) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week
Peyton Richardson
Gustavus Adolphus College

Crystal Lake, Ill. | Prairie Ridge

Peyton Richardson won three individual events and contributed to a Gustie relay win in the 200 medley (1:37.39) on 11/2. Richardson finished first in the 100 backstroke (53.98), 200 butterfly (2:04.16), and 100 butterfly (51.46), helping the Gusties to a 186-111 win over Luther.

MIAC Men's Diving Athlete of the Week
Cody Watts

Cody Watts recorded the top score in both the 1-(219.55) and 3-meter (216.95) dives in the Johnnies’ 192-102 win over St. Olaf on 11/2. His scores are the second-highest in both events so far this season in the MIAC.


MIAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week
Megan Bartels
College of Saint Benedict

Megan Bartels helped the Bennies to a split in their double dual with St. Catherine and St. Olaf on 11/2. Bartels touched the wall first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:11.21 and won the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.81. She also helped CSB to a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:53.57.

MIAC Women's Diving Athlete of the Week
Gabriella Stoudt
Gustavus Adolphus College

Gabriella Stoudt led the way for the Gusties on the boards on 11/2, taking first in the 1-meter with a score of 222.50. Stoudt also took second in the 3-meter with a score of 216.20, helping Gustavus to a 162-135 season-opening win over Luther.
