MIAC Athletes of the Week - March 25, 2024

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for baseball, softball, and tennis on Monday. Student-athletes from Augsburg, Saint Benedict, Saint John's, St. Olaf, and St. Scholastica claimed the Conference's weekly honors.

The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the spring season, team sports (baseball, softball, and tennis) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (golf and indoor track & field) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Baseball Player of the Week
Breckin Hadley
St. Olaf College

Bainbridge Island, Wash.

Breckin Hadley compiled a slash line of .500/.632/1.000 in the Oles' first four games in Florida. The sophomore recorded two doubles, a home run, four walks, three runs scored and six RBI over the four games, helping St. Olaf to a 3-1 record. Hadley had at least one hit in each game and had two three-RBI games during the week.

MIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Kody Dalen
Saint John's University

Carver, Minn. | Chanhassen

Kody Dalen pitched six no-hit innings but did not get the decision in the Johnnies' 5-4 loss to Luther on 3/18. Dalen struck out seven and walked four. The seven strikeouts enabled Dalen to move up to fifth on SJU's all-time list with 153 career Ks. Luther entered the game with an 11-4 record and batting .331 with a .514 slugging percentage and .417 on-base percentage.


MIAC Softball Player of the Week
Shreya Ashok
St. Olaf College

Prior Lake, Minn.

Shreya Ashok hit .563 (9-for-16) with a triple, three stolen bases, four RBI, and five runs scored in the Oles' four games last week. The senior closed out the week by compiling the first six-hit game in recorded program history in game two of the Oles' sweep of Agnes Scott on 3/24, going 6-for-6 with a triple, four runs scored, and four RBI. The six-hit performance marked the most hits in a game by an NCAA Division III softball student-athlete this season, while Ashok's four runs matched the single-game program record.

MIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week
Olivia O'Connor
Augsburg University

Olivia O'Connor tossed four scoreless innings in the Auggies' 8-0 shutout of North Central on 3/21. O'Connor struck out four and allowed two hits and one walk in her sixth win of the season.


MIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week
Jonas Abeleda
The College of St. Scholastica

Sydney, Australia | St. Aloysius' College

Jonas Abeleda collected two points at the No. 1 spot as the Saints defeated Saint John's 6-3 on 3/23. Following an 8-5 win at top doubles, Abeleda battled to a 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 win at No. 1 singles.

MIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week
Greta Nesbit
College of Saint Benedict

Le Sueur, Minn. | Le Sueur-Henderson

Greta Nesbit helped the Bennies to a 6-3 road win over St. Scholastica on 3/23 with an 8-7 win at No. 2 doubles followed by a 6-2. 6-3 straight-set victory at No. 3 singles. Nesbit has won three of her past five singles matches including each of her last two.
