EDINA, Minn. – The 2025 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women's Golf Championships teed off Saturday at Braemar Golf Club in Edina. Carleton took a commanding lead in the team standings after the first 18 holes of play, setting a new tournament record with a 4-over-par 292 in the first round.
The Knights' record-setting round surpassed the previous 18-hole championship mark of 297, set by St. Thomas in the second round of the 2015 MIAC Championships.
In addition to the team record, Carleton senior Carter Sichol also set a new 18-hole individual record with a 3-under-par 69 in the opening round. Sichol is the first women's golfer in recorded MIAC history to shoot a sub-70 round at the conference championship. The previous record-low round at the MIAC Women's Golf Championships was 70, originally set by two-time MIAC medalist and current Carleton assistant coach Alyssa Akiyama in 2016, and matched by Bethel's Anna Tollefson in 2021 and St. Catherine's Kyra Venne in 2022.
Carleton holds a 16-shot lead in the team standings at +4 heading into day two, while Macalester (+20) enters the second round with a 10-shot cushion over defending conference champion St. Catherine (+30) for second place. Saint Benedict is fourth at +41, followed by Bethel (+44), Gustavus (+48), St. Olaf (+50), Concordia (+57), St. Scholastica (+115), and Augsburg (+166).
Sichol's 3-under 69 has her atop the individual leaderboard with Carleton teammate Kate Yi and Macalester senior Bailey Lengfelder tied for second after each turned in 1-under-par 71s in the first round.
