NEW ORLEANS – For the consecutive season, Augsburg senior Mohammed Bati has been selected as the North Region Athlete of the Year for NCAA Division III men’s cross country, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Tuesday.

Bati (Sr. / Dodola, Ethiopia / GAP School) took runner-up honors for the second year in a row at the NCAA Division III Men’s Cross Country Championships in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Bati entered the NCAA Championships without a blemish on his record this fall, having won six consecutive meets, including the North Region Championships, the MIAC Championships, as well as the Blugold Invitational.

Bati and St. Olaf senior Kevin Turlington each received All-America distinction as well. All-America recognition is earned by finishing among the top-40 athletes in their gender’s respective races at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. Bati placed second while Turlington was 12th.

Both runners were also All-Region selections, a feat achieved by finishing in the top 35 at the regional meet. Six men’s runners from the MIAC received All-Region accolades this fall, including Turlington and Carleton senior Gabe Nichols, who became three-time All-Region honorees.

A complete list of honorees from the MIAC is listed below.
