PAUL, Minn. – For the third time in program history and the first time since 2009, the Carleton Knights are women's soccer playoff champions of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). The third time proved to be the charm for the No. 2-seeded Knights, who defeated top-seed St. Catherine, 1-0, in the third playoff championship matchup between the two programs in the last four seasons. HOW IT HAPPENED -Carleton junior defender Zaraya Jordan's first goal of the season was perhaps the most important goal of the season, as her shot with just over 15 minutes remaining in regulation gave the Knights their first MIAC playoff title in 16 years. -The Knights held the Wildcats to a season-low four shots in the game, with one in the first half and three in the second. -St. Catherine goalkeeper Brianna Valdez recorded five saves in 90 minutes of action, while Carleton's Avery Trapp made three stops. BEYOND THE BOX SCORE -With the victory, Carleton earned the MIAC's automatic qualifier to the 2025 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament. It will be the Knights' sixth trip to the national tournament, having previously qualified in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2023, and 2024. -The Playoff title is the third for Carleton. The Knights won back-to-back MIAC playoff titles in 2008 and 2009. Carleton hosted the championship game as a No. 2 seed in 2008 and won on the road as a No. 4 seed in 2009. Both games were 3-0 Carleton wins. -Carleton is now the fourth MIAC women's soccer program to have won at least three playoff championships, joining St. Catherine (5), Concordia (4), and Macalester (3). The D3Playbook has projected the NPI cut line for women's soccer at-large candidates to be 38. -The most recent NPI rankings on November 8 list three MIAC women's soccer teams among the top 50 in Division III, with Carleton at No. 18, St. Catherine at No. 21, and St. Olaf at No. 43. -The number of MIAC teams to receive an at-large invitation to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship will depend on which teams claim the other 42 conference AQs across the rest of D-III.
