MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Concordia Athletic Director Rachel Bergeson announced that Cobber alum Jared Rice has been named the new head coach for the women's soccer program.
Rice, who played for the Concordia men's soccer team from 2009-12, takes over for Becca Quimby who resigned in February to accept the head coach position at Gettysburg College (Penn.). He becomes the eighth head coach in the history of the program which started in 1982.
"We are excited to welcome Jared back to Concordia," Bergeson said. "He brings a wealth of leadership and soccer experience to the position. He is excited and ready to hit the ground running."
Rice started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Concordia in 2015. He has gone on to coach at the high school, club and Olympic Development levels for 11 years.
Rice has been the assistant coach for the Centennial High School girls' team since 2023 and helped lead Centennial to the district championship game in 2024.
Rice is currently working with the Twin Cities Rush/Blaine Soccer Club where he has logged over 10,000 hours of coaching for all ages ranging from 3-18. He has also served as the lead coach for a 2011 girls' team in the Twin Cities Soccer League.
"I am honored to be the next women's soccer head coach at Concordia and step into a program with a strong history and team culture," commented Rice. "I spent four great years as a student-athlete at Concordia and it's a great privilege to be a part of the athletic community at the college. There's a strong foundation in place and I'm excited to build upon those standards on and off the field as we move forward."
Rice currently holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National B license as well as a United Soccer Coaches (USC) Premiere Diploma.
Rice was a 4-year starter for the Cobber men's soccer team and earned MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors in 2012. He was also a team captain and named the team's Most Valuable Player in his senior season.
Rice graduated from Concordia in 2013 with a degree in Business Marketing and a minor in Graphic Design.
"I would like to thank Rachel Bergeson and the rest of the hiring committee for believing in me and giving me this opportunity to lead this great program," Rice added. "I can't wait to get started with the team and look forward to great things in the near future."
