COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – For the first time in program history, the Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties are playoff champions of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).

The Gusties held off a late Bethel rally to defeat the second-seeded Royals, 11-9, in the MIAC Playoff Championship game on Saturday in Collegeville.

Eight Gusties recorded at least one hit to help Gustavus win the first playoff championship in program history by an 11-9 margin on Saturday. Isaac Becker had one of those hits - a three-run home run in the fourth inning to give Gustavus a lead it would not relinquish. An inning later, Danny Gavin drove in three more runs with a double up the middle. By the end of the seventh inning, the Gusties had amassed an 11-3 lead. However, Bethel stormed back, scoring three runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth to put the pressure on the Gustie defense. Luke Siegle - an All-MIAC right-hander in 2023 - left his spot at third base to return to the mound for the final out of the game, earning the save on a groundout and securing the MIAC championship.

Following the final game, Gustavus was presented with the MIAC Baseball Playoff Championship plaque. The Gusties also received the conference's automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament. Bethel will await to see if its season might continue with an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The full NCAA Tournament field will be announced Monday at 11:00 a.m. on NCAA.com.
