Four MIAC football players named to CSC Academic All-America Teams

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- Four football student-athletes from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) have received Academic All-America honors from College Sports Communicators, the organization announced on Tuesday.

A trio of Johnnies received First Team accolades, with one Royal landing on the Second Team.

Saint John's senior wide receiver Dylan Wheeler, senior tight end Joey Gendreau, and senior defensive lineman Zach Frank each received First Team distinction. Bethel junior wide receiver Albert Rundell was named to the Second Team. Wheeler and Frank were Second Team honorees last season; this is the first Academic All-America honor for Gendreau and Rundell.

The four MIAC standouts were also among the 59 student-athletes from the MIAC recognized with Academic All-District honors earlier in January.

The CSC Academic All-America program honors student-athletes for excellence in both academics and athletics. Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50, and have played in 90 percent of their team’s games or have started at least 66 percent of their team’s games to be considered for Academic All-District and All-American accolades. The Academic All-America teams are voted on by members of CSC.
