MIAC Athletes of the Week - March 23, 2026

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for baseball, softball, and tennis on Monday. Student-athletes from Bethel, Carleton, Macalester, and Saint John's claimed the Conference's weekly honors.
 
The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the spring season, team sports (baseball, softball, and tennis) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (outdoor track & field and golf) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Baseball Player of the Week
Justin Brooks

Justin Brooks batted .500 (9-for-18) with a 1.293 OPS, seven RBI, seven runs scored, a home run, and a double as the Johnnies went 4-1 in Florida last week. Brooks batted .444 (4-for-9) with runners in scoring position and .500 (3-for-6) with two outs while extending his current hit streak to ten games.

MIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Max Edwards struck out nine and walked two while allowing two hits and one unearned run in the Johnnies' 10-1 win over Ramapo on 3/20. Edwards is now 3-0 with a 0.41 ERA, .120 opponent batting average, and 24 strikeouts in 22 innings this spring. Opponents are batting .105 (2-for-19) against him with runners on base and .185 (5-for-27) with two outs.

MIAC Softball Player of the Week
Safiya Butler

Safiya Butler batted .452 (14-for-31) with 11 runs scored, four runs batted in, and four stolen bases in a five-win week for the Scots. Butler went 4-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI in a 7-6 victory over Kalamazoo, driving in the winning run with a bunt single in the bottom of the seventh. Butler also scored a pair of runs in a 6-4 win over nationally-ranked UW-Whitewater and crossed home plate twice in an 8-7 loss to nationally-ranked Simpson while extending her current hit streak to ten consecutive games.

MIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week

Sydney Trentman went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three starts for the Knights last week. Trentman struck out 19 batters while allowing five hits in 17.0 innings of work, holding opposing hitters to a .086 batting average. After fanning six in a 9-0 victory against Western Connecticut State on 3/18, Trentman earned a complete-game win over Dallas Christian, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning of an eventual 2-1 win. She capped the week with a six-strikeout, one-hit performance in 5.0 innings against Colby on 3/21. Trentman has not yielded an earned run in her last 39.0 innings of play.

MIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Dylan Magistad

Dylan Magistad accounted for eight points across five matches for the Royals last week, going 4-1 at No. 2 singles and 4-1 at No. 1 doubles. In addition to singles wins against St. Norbert (3/16) and Illinois Wesleyan (3/17), Magistad battled to tiebreaker victories against UW-Eau Claire (3/19) and Colby-Sawyer (3/20), with 3,6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6) and 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 1-0 (10-5) decisions, respectively.


MIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Michaella Sullivan

Michaella Sullivan was undefeated in both singles and doubles action in four wins for the Royals last week. In addition to four wins atop the doubles lineup, Sullivan also went 4-0 at No. 2 singles, which included a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8) win over Springfield on 3/16.
