JOSEPH, Minn. – College of Saint Benedict Director of Athletics Kelly Anderson Diercks announced the hiring of Meredith Mahoney as the Bennies' new director of athletic communications on Tuesday, June 30. Mahoney spent the past four years at Illinois Wesleyan University where she served as a graduate assistant for two years before being promoted to assistant director of athletic communications in 2024. She served as the primary contact for the IWU men's and women's volleyball, men's and women's swim & dive and men's and women's lacrosse, and was a pivotal part of all promotion and publicity efforts. Mahoney also served as the media coordinator for the 2025 Division III Softball World Series and the 2025 NCAA Division III Volleyball National Championship, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan. "We had a really talented and competitive field of candidates and Meredith emerged as exactly the right fit for CSB athletics," stated Anderson Diercks. "Meredith has solid mix of experiences, from writing to statistics, to hosting NCAA championship events. She brings a passion for promoting NCAA Division III students-athletes and an energy that is going to elevate the entire CSB athletic department," Anderson Diercks added. An active member of College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), Mahoney currently serves as the Chair of the Young Professionals committee and is a national coordinator for the Academic All-America committee. She earned College Sports Communicators' 30 Under 30 Award in 2024 and has been honored four times for her videography in CSC's Creative & Digital Design Contest. She was also part of an IWU staff that was named Division III Sports Information Directors of America (D3SIDA) Region 4 Staff of the Year in 2023-24. She helped IWU successfully nominate 33 CSC Academic All-Americans in her four years and was named a member of the inaugural NCAA Emerging Elite Program, a selective professional development program that supports the advancement of the next generation of athletic communication leaders. "I am honored to be named the director of athletic communications at the College of Saint Benedict," Mahoney said. "I'm looking forward to the opportunity to promote the great success of CSB programs and their student-athletes. I have always been passionate about promoting Division III athletics, and CSB has a rich history that I am excited to now be a part of." Mahoney's career began at Central College (Iowa), where she served as a sports information student-worker for three years under CSC Hall of Famer Larry Happel. While at Central, she participated in varsity athletics, competing for the Dutch softball team for four years. She graduated in 2022 with a degree in actuarial science and completed her master's degree in sport management from Illinois State University in May of 2024. A native of Downers Grove, Ill., Mahoney will oversee all communication efforts for the College of Saint Benedict athletic programs. She officially begins her duties on July 13.
