St. Thomas earned the MIAC's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament with Hamline receiving an at-large bid. Both the Tommies and Pipers advanced to the Frozen Four, with UST defeating UW-Eau Claire, 4-3, and HU topping UW-River Falls, 5-1. The two MIAC squads faced off against each other in the national semifinal, with Hamline defeating St. Thomas, 3-0, to advance to the national championship game. Plattsburgh State defeated Hamline, 4-0, to win the national championship, while St. Thomas fell to Adrian, 1-0, in the third-place game.

Hamline defeated UW-Eau Claire the next day, 3-2, to advance to the Frozen Four, where the Pipers lost to Norwich, 5-1, before defeating Plattsburgh State, 5-4, in the third-place game.

Gustavus then lost to Middlebury in the AWCHA Division III National Championship Game, 6-0, and Saint Mary's defeated Williams, 2-1 to claim third place.
