Augsburg and St. Thomas were also swept in the opening round by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and UW-Eau Claire, respectively. Saint Benedict defeated Pacific Lutheran (3-1) and Minn.-Morris (3-2) before falling to UW-Eau Claire (3-1) in the regional championship.

Gustavus won the regional, defeating Aurora, Wartburg, and host Northwestern, all by 3-1 margins. The Gusties fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the national quarterfinals in Grand Rapids, Mich., 3-1.

St. Thomas defeated Cornell (3-2), UW-Eau Claire (3-0), and Saint Ben's (3-1) at its home regional before sweeping Clarkson in the quarterfinals and Elmhurst in the semifinals. St. Thomas defeated Calvin, 3-2-, to win the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball National Championship.

Concordia recorded regional wins over Loras (3-2) and UW-La Crosse (3-0) before falling to CSB. Gustavus was swept by UW-Eau Claire in the regional opener.
