MIAC Title IX Trailblazers- Concordia

Dr. Joan Hult
Dr. Joan S. Hult, founder of women’s intercollegiate athletics at Concordia College-Moorhead in 1958. Dr. Hunt invited two other local colleges for “sports day” at Concordia and from the first year, the group began with only three schools competing in women’s athletics but by 1968 the women’s athletic group had grown to nine teams strong. With experience playing semi-professional basketball and softball, Dr. Hunt was a mentor for young female athletes, as well as being an advocate to women’s athletics and stressing the importance of pushing for what female athletes deserved. Away from all of the work she did to further the advancement of women’s athletics at Concordia, Dr. Hunt also had her hand in helping the passing of Title IX.
