Woman of the Year

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference prides itself on the quality of its student-athletes. Between 1991 and 2003 all colleges and universities in the state of Minnesota came together to select a state representative for the Minnesota Woman of the Year. During this span the MIAC claimed 11 state winners. Since 2005-06 the NCAA has taken over the process of recognizing women on a national level. In both 2005-06 and 2006-07 the MIAC representative for National Woman of the Year has made it to be a top finalist. More information about these outstanding women can be found below...

2006-2007 NCAA Woman of the Year 
Amanda Weinmann, Saint Mary's University
Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field
Top 30 NCAA Finalist

 

Athletic Profile: Weinmann broke both the indoor shot put and weight throw school records, was crowned conference champion in the weight throw (indoor) and shot put (outdoor), and earned All-American honors with eighth-place finishes in the shot put at both the indoor and outdoor NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships. Weinmann leaves SMU as a three-time All-American, a four-time All-MIAC selection, as well as the owner of seven MIAC Field Athlete of the Week honors and the 2006-07 SMU Outstanding Female Athlete and Scholar Athlete of the year.
Academic Profile: Weinmann graduated from SMU with a 3.99 GPA as a double-major in bio-physics and engineering physics. She earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Second-Team honors, and was one of 10 NCAA Division III female spring sport student-athletes awarded post-graduate scholarships by the NCAA.

Angie Pfeiffer, Concordia College

Athletic Profile: As an athlete, Pfeiffer broke 13 school records and competed in six NCAA National Championship Meets, including all four outdoor championship meets. She was named the USTFCCCA Central Region Athlete of the Year in the spring of 2006. She won the MIAC Performance of the Meet award on three separate occasions and was named the MIAC Most Outstanding Track Athlete in 2004 when she helped the Cobbers capture the MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship. She owns both the outdoor and indoor 400 meter conference records, which she broke in her senior season and finished her career at Concordia as a six-time All-American.
Academic Profile: In 2006, Pfeiffer earned a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. She was also a two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She is currently attending the College of Dentistry at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Pfeiffer was also active in many outside organizations and spent four weeks in Costa Rica volunteering in an orphanage as part of the Cross Cultural Solutions program.

Academic Profile: 3.626 GPA. Major: Biology. Graduated cum laude May 2003. Two-time Verizon Academic All-American, 2001-02. Three-time Academic All-Conference. 
Service and leadership: Thompson served on Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, 2001-03. Provided care for a teen with a disability, 2000-03. Campus tutor-mentor for two years. Coached youth soccer, 1999-2003. Area nursing home volunteer, 2001-03.

Athletic Profile: Jofa/American Hockey Coaches' Association first-team All-American, 2002 and second-team All-American, 2001. First-team All-Conference, 1999-02. Conference player of the year and NCAA Division III player of the year. Highest team finishes: third in the NCAA championships, 2002. Second in the American Women Coaches' Hockey Association championship, 2000 and 2001. Conference Champions, 1999 and 2002. Team captain, 2001-02.
Academic Profile: 3.878 GPA. Major: psychology/criminal justice. Graduated magna cum laude June 2002. Phi Beta Kappa. Pi Sigma Alpha (political science honorary society). Psi Chi (psychology honor society). First-team Verizon Academic All-American award, 2002. 
Service and leadership: Moe was a member of the campus student-athlete advisory committee. Volunteered as student aid to juvenile delinquents. Victim's advocate at a sexual assault services organization. Dormitory representative to the student senate, 1998-99. Mentored young hockey players.

University's outstanding female athlete and scholar-athlete, both in 2000 and 2001. National championship team, 2000. Team placed fourth in NCAA championship, 2001. Team conference champion in 1998, 1999 and 2001. Regional all-tournament team, 2000, 2001.
Academic Profile: 3.930 GPA. Major: accounting. Graduated May 2001. Three-time GTE/Verizon Academic All-American. Wall Street Journal Student Achievement Award, 2001. CoSIDA/Verizon Academic All-American of the Year. Three-time Academic All-Conference. Member of Delta Epsilon Sigma, the national honor society for universities with a Catholic tradition. Member of Eta Beta, the university's chapter of the National Honor Society for students of business administration.  
Service and leadership: Member of the campus student-athlete advisory committee. Participated in walk-a-thons for cerebral palsy, cancer and other causes. Tutored at a low-income housing community center. Volunteered as a coach, giving pitching lessons.

Team finished runner up at 1997 NCAA championship.
Academic Profile: GPA: 3.95. Major: History and Pre medicine. Graduated summa cum laude, May 2000. Named GTE Academic All-District, 2000. Selected to Alpha Mu Gamma and Delta Epsilon Sigma honor societies. Earned DES Scholarship.
