Since 2005, Augsburg and Hamline have battled for The Hammer. Established by then-Auggie head coach Frank Haege, The Hammer has a maroon handle and a grey head, representing the colors of both institutions, and is guarded during the game by the athletic trainer of the team that won the previous year.
