The Paint Bucket

The Paint Bucket

| Hamline vs. Macalester | Football | Founded: 1965 |

While the football rivalry between Snelling Avenue foes Hamline and Macalester dates back to 1887, the Paint Bucket Trophy became the game's symbol of victory in 1965. It had become a running prank for football players from the two schools to spray paint each other's campus, which motivated Hamline alumnus Chuck Slocum to turn the destructive trend into a heraded prize: the Paint Bucket Trophy. The trophy features the final score of every football game between the two programs and resides at the winning school until the next year's game.
