ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Olaf defended its title in dominant
fashion Saturday at the 2013 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (MIAC) Men's Cross Country Championships at Como Park
Golf Course in St. Paul, Minn. The Oles had the first three runners
across the finish line, led by two-time MIAC individual champion
Grant Wintheiser.
St. Olaf was impressive a year ago in capturing the title, but
their 2013 title was even more impressive. The Oles scored just 20
points to claim their title by a 61-point margin over the runners
up. St. Olaf had five runners in the top 10 and another in the top
16. The Oles, ranked third nationally, had individuals finish
first, second, third, sixth and eighth to claim their second MIAC
championship in as many years.

St. Olaf's cross-town rival, Carleton was the runner-up with 81
points. St. Thomas claimed third place with 104 points, edging
fourth-place Saint John's (108) by just four points. Hamline scored
175 to round out the top five in the team standings.
Macalester claimed sixth place with 184 points. Gustavus took
seventh with a total of 207 and Concordia came in eighth with 226
points. Saint Mary's (239) and Bethel (243) finished ninth and
10th, respectively, and Augsburg rounded out the team standings
with a total of 274.
Wintheiser, like his team, was victorious for the
second-straight season, and impressive in doing so. The Ole junior
edged a teammate for the MIAC individual title by just six seconds
to lead a trio of St. Olaf runners across the finish line of the 8k
race. Wintheiser's latest title came from a time of 24:48.9.
