BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- A pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) men's soccer teams received national attention on Tuesday with the release of the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Top 25 Poll. The University of St. Thomas is ranked No. 12 in the nation, while Carleton College received votes in the first balloting of 2019.

The Tommies went 16-4-2 in 2018, finishing the year in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament. St. Thomas is set to take on a pair of top-20 teams in 2019, with matchups scheduled against No. 3 Chicago and No. 8 Luther to open September. The defending MIAC Playoff champion Knights ended their season against Chicago in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year. The Knights went 16-2-3 in 2018, enjoying a streak of 16 consecutive games without a loss along the way.

The 2019 men's soccer season officially gets underway with nine non-conference matches on Friday, August 30. MIAC contests are set to begin on Wednesday, September 18.
