ST. PAUL, Minn. – Bre Simon and Molly Garin earned national recognition from USCHO.com this week.
Simon, a junior forward from Elk River, Minn., was named the D-III Women's Hockey Player of the Year and Garin, a freshman forward, was named Rookie of the Year by the website.
Simon, who was named the recipient of the Laura Hurd Award by the American Hockey Coaches Association as the top D-III women's icer two weeks ago and recently earned her second first West All-American recognition. She led all D-III players with 27 goals and 37 assists. She is the school's all-time point-getter with 75 goals and 72 assists in 86 games.
Garin scored 19 goals and assisted on 19 others. Her three-goal hat trick -- the second one she had recorded -- paved the way for the Pipers' 5-1 NCAA D-III quarterfinal victory over Wis-River Falls. The Holy Family High School grad was an All-MIAC pick and also earned a spot on the league's All-Rookie team.
Simon and Garin helped the Pipers to a school record 23 wins. Hamline became the first MIAC team ever to advance to a women's D-III final, falling to Plattsburgh State.
