ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Bethel University Director of Athletics Bob Bjorklund is excited to introduce Ben Linder as the next head coach of the Royals' women's soccer program. Linder is no stranger to the Bethel soccer program having served as the men's assistant coach the last three seasons and women's for one. He will take over for Amanda Maxwell who announced her resignation in March after seven seasons with the Royals to accept a teaching position in Ecuador.
"Ben Linder is a gifted leader who will hit the ground running as he takes over the reins as head women's soccer coach," said Bjorklund. "He has demonstrated a commitment to excellence and a passion for building a vibrant culture within the team. Ben will combine tremendous ability with high energy to offer a first-class experience for our women's soccer student athletes. The holistic approach he brings to team building will serve the program well."
Linder comes to BU full-time after spending the last seven and a half years in the Minneapolis United organization. There he served as the girls coaching director and camp director since 2015. Linder also held a three year stint as the C2/C3 girls' and boys' coaching director with the organization.
Prior to Minneapolis United, Linder was the head boys' varsity coach at Minnehaha Academy for five seasons and head JV coach for two where he helped lead the team to a No. 7 state ranking in 2015. Beginning in the summer of 2012 he also began instructing camps for the International School of Soccer Excellence (ISSE) in St. Paul, Minn.
"I am excited and honored to be named the women's head soccer coach at Bethel University," said Linder. "The program's goal will be to always compete at the highest level with grace and joy. I also want to thank Amanda Maxwell for her leadership and friendship. Amanda will be missed and she will always be a part of the Bethel University women's soccer program. We wish her and her family all the best in their newest adventure."
A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, where his soccer experience, skills and philosophy stems from, Linder moved to the United States where he was a graduate of Minnehaha Academy before attending Biola University where he graduated with a degree in Communications Studies/Broadcast Journalism. He began his coaching career in 2001 as the girls' varsity soccer coach at Bell-Jeff High School in Burbank, Calif. where he led the team to their first wins in school history with only ten players.
Ben currently lives in Minneapolis with his son Patrick.
