BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The 2019 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women's Tennis Playoffs got underway with a pair of quarterfinal matches on Wednesday afternoon. No. 3 seed Bethel and No. 4 seed St. Thomas will be moving on to the semifinal round after securing 5-0 victories over St. Olaf and Saint Mary's, respectively.

The No. 3 seed Bethel University women's tennis team is moving on to the semifinal round for the third consecutive season after defeating No. 6 St. Olaf College, 5-0, in Arden Hills on Wednesday. The nation's No.38-ranked team swept doubles and picked up wins at the third and fourth singles spots to set up a match against No. 2 seed Gustavus in St. Peter on Friday afternoon.

The nationally-ranked doubles tandem of Grace Riermann and Maggie Riermann scored an 8-2 victory at the top doubles spot, while Mackenzie Novak and Jill Weinzettel earned an 8-2 win of their own at No. 2 doubles. Meghan Schuler and Sydney Rott came away with an 8-5 win at third doubles. Novak added a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, while Weinzettel outlasted the Oles' Emily Otteson at fourth singles with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 victory.

No. 4 seed St. Thomas topped No. 5 Saint Mary's, 5-0, at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center on Wednesday to advance to the MIAC Semifinals. The Tommies swept doubles play and claimed wins at third and sixth singles to punch their tickets to Northfield, where the No. 1 seeded Carleton Knights await on Friday afternoon.

First-year standouts Olivia Paradise and Taylor Jackson defeated Laura Sonday and Colleen Lois, 8-4, at the top doubles spot, while the Tommie tandem of Taylor McLeod and Paige McLeod won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles, and Natasha Hood and Catherine Lindsay pitched a shutout at No. 3 doubles, 8-0. Hood also added a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles, while Brooke Hapuku won 6-0, 6-1 at the six spot.
