MIAC Athletes of the Week - February 7, 2023

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for swimming & diving and indoor track & field Tuesday. Student-athletes from Bethel, Carleton, Gustavus, and Saint John's claimed the Conference's weekly honors for January 31 - February 7, 2023.

The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the winter season, team sports (basketball, hockey) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (swimming & diving, indoor track & field) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week
Kieran Ripken
Gustavus Adolphus College

Blaine, Minn. | Spring Lake Park

Ripken was the top NCAA Division III finisher in the 100 breastroke with a finals time of 58.17 at the University of Minnesota's First Chance Meet over the weekend. Ripken also finished second overall in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.10.

MIAC Men's Diving Athlete of the Week
Connor Reed
Saint John's University

Connor Reed won the 3-meter dive (469.60) and claimed second on the 1-meter board (444.15) at the Dodd Road Invite last weekend.


MIAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week

Marit Isaacson posted the top NCAA Division III finish in all of her events at the University of Minnesota's First Chance Meet over the weekend. Isaacson finished second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:11.48, second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:42.33, and took third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.31.

MIAC Women's Diving Athlete of the Week
Kaija Pratt
Gustavus Adolphus College

Kaija Pratt won the 1-meter 11 dives at the Dodd Road Invite with a score of 432.60. Pratt also won the 3-meter 11 dives with a total of 422.40.


MIAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Jacob Parent
Bethel University

New Richmond, Wis.

Jacob Parent won the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.69 at the Mark Guthrie Legacy Invitational hosted by UW-La Crosse last weekend. That time also ranks second fastest in Division III. He then went on to run a 48.39 split as the anchor in the 4x400-meter relay team that finished first with Division III's top time of 3:16.87.

Joe Charbonneau

New Richmond, Wis.

Joe Charbonneau recorded a third-place height in the pole vault at the University of Minnesota's Gopher Classic with a distance of 4.61 meters. That mark leads the MIAC and ranks 30th overall in NCAA Division III this season.


MIAC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Kelsie Sealock
Bethel University

Kelsie Sealock clocked a pair of national top-10 times last weekend at the Mark Guthrie Legacy Invitational. She set a program record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.53 - good for third at the meet and the sixth-fastest time in D-III history. Sealock also helped the Royals' 4x400-meter relay team place second at the meet and tenth in D-III with a time of 3:58.83.

Nayeli Williams broke a nearly 26-year-old program record when she measured 5.68 meters in the long jump during the Ted Nelson Classic last weekend. That distance is tops in the MIAC and ranks Williams No. 3 in NCAA Division III this season.
