MIAC announces 2024 Men's Outdoor Track & Field awards

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its annual award recipients for Men's Outdoor Track & Field on Thursday, capping off an outstanding championship meet last weekend.

The top three finishers in each event received All-MIAC honors, while individuals that finished 4-6 received All-Conference Honorable Mention distinction. MIAC track & field coaches also selected individual award recipients for Track Athlete of the Year, Field Athlete of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year.

Saint John's senior Kevin Arthur was selected as the Track Athlete of the Year while St. Scholastica junior Trent Beseth received Field Athlete of the Year honors. Augsburg first-year Kameron Smith picked up Rookie of the Year honors, and Bethel head coach Andrew Rock was selected as the MIAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year.

Arthur (Sr. | Champlin, Minn. | Champlin Park) was named Track Athlete of the Year honors for the third consecutive season after sweeping the 100- and 200-meter dash competitions for the third year in a row. Arthur set the meet record in the 100-meter dash at 10.32 before setting another meet record - as well as the fastest time in NCAA Division III this season - in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.68. Arthur added one more All-Conference honor as the second leg of the Johnnies’ 4x100-meter relay team that finished second in 40.94. Arthur is the first athlete to threepeat as MIAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year in recorded conference history.

Beseth (Jr. | Stanchfield, Minn. | Cambridge-Isanti) earned Field Athlete of the Year honors after winning the discus with a program-record throw of 55.23 meters. He also placed second in the shot put with a toss of 16.95 meters and landed third in the hammer throw at 51.60 meters. Beseth is the first Saint in program history to be voted MIAC Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year.

Smith (Fy. | Arlington, Texas | Mansfield Summit) received Rookie of the Year distinction after claiming the MIAC title in the triple jump at the 2024 Outdoor Championships. Smith posted a personal best distance of 13.87 meters, good for the third-best triple jump in program history. He is the first Auggie in program history to be selected MIAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Year.

Rock (12th season) was celebrated by his peers as both the Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year after leading the Royals to conference championships for the first time in both men’s and women’s program history. He is the first coach since at least 1997 to be named MIAC Coach of the Year for both men’s and women’s outdoor track & field. Rock also swept the Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year honors.

In addition to the top individual award winners, the 2024 All-Conference individuals and relay teams were also announced. Complete results and recaps of the 2024 MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships can be found on the championship homepage.
