MIAC Women's Soccer Notebook - October 1, 2025

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - October has arrived, and with it comes the heart of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) women's soccer schedule. Twelve conference games will be played in the next four days, including a matchup of regionally-ranked foes and perennial MIAC title contenders, as St. Catherine hosts Carleton on Saturday afternoon.

IN THE POLLS
St. Catherine received votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, released on September 30. The Wildcats are No. 2 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Region IX Rankings, followed by Carleton at No. 3, St. Olaf at No. 5, and Saint Mary's at No. 7.

New polls and rankings are anticipated to be released on Tuesday, October 7.


NATIONAL NOTABLES
Augsburg senior forward Jayla Ponce (Kuna, Idaho / Kuna) scored four goals and collected 12 points against Bethany Lutheran on 9/6, tied for the second-highest single-game goal tally and point total in NCAA Division III this season.

Gustavus junior goalkeeper Katelyn Olson (Cloquet, Minn. / Cloquet) has played 900 minutes in goal this season, tied for the fourth-most in NCAA Division III.

Saint Mary's senior forwards Sam Munson (Plain City, Utah / St. Joseph) and Lauryn Skoruppa (Littleton, Colo. / Mountain Vista) are tied for the most game-winning goals in NCAA Division III this season with four apiece.

St. Olaf junior forward Emily Johnson (Vadnais Heights, MN) has scored 10 goals this season, tied for the eighth-most in NCAA Division III.

St. Scholastica senior forward Kaitlyn Sautter (Princeton, Minn. / Princeton) had a three-assist game against Crown on 9/12, tied for the second-highest single-game assist total in Division III this season.

St. Scholastica first-year goalkeeper Rylee Senich (Cloquet, Minn. / Cloquet) has made 86 saves this season, the tenth-most in D-III.


AROUND THE MIAC
Augsburg senior forward Jayla Ponce (Kuna, Idaho / Kuna) claimed the fourth hat trick of her collegiate career with a four-goal, two-assist effort in the Auggies' 10-0 win over Bethany Lutheran on 9/6. Ponce recorded career-highs in both goals (four) and points (10), scoring goals in the fourth, 12th, 17th, and 51st minutes. Ponce scored twice at Saint Mary's on 9/20, giving her 10 multi-goal games in her career.
 
Bethel senior midfielder Malia Beilby (Lino Lakes, Minn. / Centennial) scored two goals in the Royals' 4-1 road victory at Concordia on 9/27. It was her first multi-goal game of the season and the second of her collegiate career.

Carleton junior midfielder Lily Shure (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township) scored the game-winning goal in the Knights' 3-2 victory over nationally-ranked and previously undefeated UW-La Crosse on 9/24. The goal was the first of Shure's collegiate career. She went on to assist on another game-winner three days later in Carleton's 3-0 road victory over Macalester on 9/27.
 
Concordia first-year midfielder Kate Corradi (Bemidji, Minn. / Bemidji) broke the Cobbers' scoring drought when she knocked home a rebound in the fourth minute of the second half in a loss to Bethel on 9/27. Corradi's goal was the first of her collegiate career and Concordia's first tally of the season.
 
Gustavus senior forward Cambelle Waldspurger (Mahtomedi, Minn. / Mahtomedi) scored the lone goal in the Gusties' 1-0 win against Luther on 9/24. The game was a continuation of a weather-halted contest that originally began on 9/13. Waldspurger had a career-best five-point game at Augsburg on 9/16, scoring twice and assisting on another.

Hamline sophomore forward Addyson Barrett (Chisago City, Minn. / Chisago Lakes) scored two goals - including the game-winner - and assisted on another score in the Pipers' 6-0 rout of UM-Morris on 9/11. It was the first five-point performance of her collegiate career and her second multi-goal game as a Piper.
 
Macalester junior forward Julia Hanson (Weston, Mass. / Weston) got the Scots on the board at St. Catherine on 9/17, scoring her first goal of the season in the 72nd minute of play. It was the tenth goal of her collegiate career.
 
Saint Benedict junior goalkeeper Rhianna Anya (Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) has not allowed a goal in her last 212 minutes of action, helping the Bennies to three consecutive shutouts of conference opponents. Anya made six saves in one-half of play in a 3-0 win versus Bethel on 9/20, collected two more stops in 34 minutes of a 4-0 win against St. Scholastica on 9/24, and played the full 90 minutes of a 2-0 road win at Gustavus with six saves on 9/27.
 
St. Catherine sophomore goalkeeper Brianna Valdez (Libertyville, Ill. / Libertyville) helped the Wildcats to a pair of road shutouts against UW-Eau Claire (9/23) and Augsburg (9/27) last week. Valdez collected seven saves in 180 minutes of action.
 
Saint Mary's senior forward Sam Munson (Plain City, Utah / St. Joseph) opened the 2025 campaign with three goals and a pair of assists as the Cardinals tallied wins over UM-Morris (8/29) and UW-Platteville (9/1). Munson scored the first two goals and assisted on the third in a 5-0 win over the Cougars to start the year before being credited with the game-winner on a penalty kick late in the second half of a 2-1 home win against the Pioneers. Munson also assisted on the opening goal of the game.
 
St. Olaf junior forward Emily Johnson (Vadnais Heights, Minn. / Mounds View) began her 2025 season with three multi-goal games in the first two weeks of the year. Johnson scored two of the team's four goals in a shutout of UW-Eau Claire on 8/29, tallied two more in a 3-1 win over Hope on 9/6, and registered the first hat trick of her collegiate career in a 6-1 win against UW-Stevens Point on 9/10. Johnson has scored at least once in five of her last six games.
 
St. Scholastica senior forward Kaitlyn Sautter (Princeton, Minn. / Princeton) was credited with an assist on three of the Saints' four goals in a road shutout of Crown on 9/12. Sautter scored a goal of her own eight days later - her first of the season - to secure a 1-1 draw against Gustavus on 9/20.
