Oles, Bati make it four straight as MIAC men’s cross country champs

ST. PAUL, Minn. – For the fourth consecutive season, St. Olaf College has won the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) men's cross country championship.
 
The Oles placed seven runners in the top 15 to earn 33 points and a 51-point margin of victory. This is the 13th MIAC crown in St. Olaf program history.

Carleton placed second with 84 points, followed by Macalester in third with 96 points. Saint John's finished fourth in the team standings with 102, with Gustavus at 121, Bethel at 175, St. Scholastica at 207, Concordia at 219, Augsburg at 273, Saint Mary's at 284, and Hamline at 302.
 
Augsburg senior Mohammed Bati also made history on Saturday, becoming the first runner in recorded MIAC Men's Cross Country Championship history to win four consecutive individual titles. Bati finished the 8K race in 24:32.7, good for the fifth-fastest 8K time ever at the conference championship meet. Bati has now run four of the five fastest 8K times in MIAC Championship history.
 
Jockeying for position with Bati for a majority of the race was St. Olaf senior Kevin Turlington, who placed second in 24:43.1. Carleton senior Gabe Nichols took third in 25:16.1, followed by Saint John's junior Cole Stencel in fourth (25:26.5), and St. Olaf senior Jack Deaver in fifth (25:43.9).
 
More than 160 student-athletes participated in this year's MIAC Men's Cross Country Championships. The top 15 finishers earned All-Conference recognition, while finishers 16-25 were awarded Honorable Mention. The All-MIAC and Honorable Mention runners were honored at a post-meet awards ceremony, and the Oles were also presented with their MIAC Championship trophy.
