Halverson brings to the role a diverse and accomplished background in sports media, collegiate athletics communications, and digital marketing. A native of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, Halverson began his career in sports media at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, where he gained early experience as the host of a campus sports talk show and later as a sports videographer and production assistant for WQOW-TV. In addition to his broadcast work, he supported UW–Eau Claire athletics as a writer, gameday assistant, and video streamer, contributing to numerous programs including volleyball, hockey, basketball, and football. While working at WQOW-TV in Eau Claire, he began filling in on-air and was a panelist on their "Sports OT Wrap" high school football analysis show. In 2018, Halverson moved to Duluth, MN for a similar sports videography and production assistant role at FOX-21 television. Quickly after moving to Duluth, he landed a job at neighboring station KBJR-TV as the Weekend Sports Anchor/Sports reporter. Throughout the next four years (2018-2022), he would be promoted several times, eventually to Sports Director and Weekday Sports Anchor on the flagship NBC newscast in Duluth. His coverage included major collegiate and professional sporting events, such as the Milwaukee Bucks' 2021 NBA Championship and the University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey national title in 2019. He also served as an ice-side reporter for UMD men's and women's hockey broadcasts on the My9 Sports Network for two seasons. Most recently, Halverson worked in digital marketing within the outdoors and ice-fishing industry, further expanding his communications expertise and multimedia skillset. "The search for the right person to lead our athletic communication efforts mattered," said Jessica Cherry, Director of Athletics. "After a great deal of anticipation, I believe Matt Halverson is sincerely the person St. Scholastica Athletics have been waiting for. Matt's passion, professionalism and vision align perfectly with where we want our department to go. Matt understands our mission and will elevate our story, the student-athlete experience and our overall presence locally and nationally." Reflecting on his new role, Halverson expressed enthusiasm for joining the Saints Community: "I'm excited for the new opportunity, and what my skillset from media can bring to this position," he said. "I fell in love with the Duluth community when I moved here in 2018 and have gone out of my way to stay in the area. This role feels like a great fit and I'm excited for what's to come here at St. Scholastica." Halverson resides in Duluth with his wife, Alyson, and enjoys spending time outdoors as a passionate angler.
