MIAC Athletes of the Week - December 15, 2025

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for basketball and hockey on Monday. Student-athletes from Augsburg, Bethel, Carleton, Concordia, Gustavus, and Saint Mary's claimed the Conference's weekly honors.
 
The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the winter season, team sports (basketball and hockey) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (swimming & diving and indoor track & field) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Jake Schmitt
Gustavus Adolphus College

Plymouth, Minn. / Wayzata

Jake Schmitt led the Gusties to a 95-80 win over Saint John's on 12/10 with 24 points on 8-for-11 shooting while going 5-for-8 from beyond the arc. Schmitt also had three steals, three assists, and three rebounds in the win.
 
MIAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Sam Koelling
Carleton College

Sam Koelling averaged 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 23.0 points per game in a 2-0 week for the Knights with wins over Macalester (12/10) and Northwestern (12/13). Koelling had a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double with four blocks in Carleton's win over the Scots and turned in 25 points, eight rebounds, and another blocked shot against the Eagles.

Maya Metcalf

Maya Metcalf went 8-for-11 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line for a career-high 24 points in the Cobbers' road win at St. Olaf on 12/10. Metcalf was 3-for-4 from long range in addition to pacing the Cobbers with five rebounds and three blocks in the team's third consecutive win.
 
MIAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Alli Born
Bethel University

Alli Born averaged 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals in a pair of wins for the Royals last week. Born came away with five steals, six rebounds, and a blocked shot in Bethel's victory over Augsburg on 12/10 before recording a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards, along with two more steals, in a 73-67 win over UW-River Falls on 12/13.

Emil Samuelsson

Emil Samuelsson collected five points on four assists and a game-winning goal in the Gusties' sweep of Concordia Wisconsin on 12/13-14. Samuelsson had three assists in a 6-5 overtime win on 12/13 before assisting on another score and recording the game-winning goal in a 3-2 win on 12/14. Samuelsson has factored into the scoring in every contest during the Gusties' current four-game win streak.
 
MIAC Men's Hockey Defensive Player of the Week
Adam Prokop

Adam Prokop stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced in the Cardinals' 4-1 victory over Dubuque on 12/9. Prokop's lone goal allowed came on a power-play with less than five minutes remaining in regulation. It was the fourth complete game and sixth victory-in-goal of his collegiate career.

MIAC Women's Hockey Offensive Player of the Week
Amelia McQuay

Amelia McQuay scored the first three goals of her collegiate career in the Royals' 5-3 win over Marian on 12/12. McQuay tallied an unassisted goal to give Bethel a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission before putting the Royals ahead again with a power-play goal in the third period. McQuay scored an empty-net insurance goal just before the end of regulation for her first collegiate hat trick.

Marissa Paaske stopped all 28 shots she faced in the Auggies' win over nationally-ranked UW-Eau Claire on 12/12. Paaske picked up her second shutout of the season and the eighth of her collegiate career, tying the program record for career shutouts.
