BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The 2025 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Basketball Playoffs got underway with a pair of quarterfinal contests on Tuesday night. No. 3 Hamline defeated No. 6 Concordia, 74-59, in the opening contest before No. 4 Carleton topped No. 5 Augsburg, 73-57, in the second quarterfinal of the night.
Thursday's semifinal matchups are now set. No. 1 Gustavus will host No. 4 at 5:00 p.m., while No. 2 Saint John's will welcome No. 3 Hamline at 7:00 p.m. Both contests will be rematches of last year's semifinals, which resulted in two of the most exciting MIAC playoff games in recent memory.
NO. 3 HAMLINE 74, NO. 6 CONCORDIA 59 | Box Score |
A 31-point performance from Bradley Cimperman propelled the Pipers past Concordia and into the MIAC semifinals for a third straight season with a 74-59 win at Hutton Arena in St. Paul on Tuesday. Cimperman played all 40 minutes, connecting on 10 of his 21 shots from the floor and all 10 free throw tries in the win. Teammate Austin Holt finished the game with a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double. The Cobbers were led by Jackson Loge, who turned in a double-double of his own with 20 points and 16 boards.
The Pipers will now square off with No. 2 Saint John's on Thursday night in Collegeville. The two squads have met in the postseason three of the last four years, including the 2024 semifinal that saw Hamline upset the top-seeded Johnnies in a dramatic 83-80 buzzer-beating finish. Saint John's won the only regular-season meeting between the teams this year, a 79-61 decision in January. Game time for Thursday is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Sexton Arena.
NO. 4 CARLETON 73, NO. 5 AUGSBURG 57 | Box Score |
Four Knights finished in double figures as Carleton pulled away in the second half for a 73-57 win over Augsburg in the MIAC quarterfinals on Tuesday. Carleton scored 46 points in the paint, with forward Sam Koelling tallying game-highs in both points (19) and rebounds (9). Will Blascziek went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc for the Auggies, tying for the team lead with 14 points and adding five boards and three steals on the defensive end.
The Knights will take on No. 1 seed Gustavus on Thursday in St. Peter. Carleton prevented the Gusties from celebrating an undefeated conference season by topping Gustavus, 73-61, in Northfield six days ago. The two programs went to double-overtime in last year's MIAC semifinals, with Gustavus winning 124-116 in the highest-scoring game in MIAC Playoff history. Tip-off for Thursday's sequel is set for 5:00 p.m. on the Gusties' home court.
