DULUTH, Minn. – The College of St. Scholastica has announced the hiring of Ben Davis as the next head coach of its men's basketball program.
Davis brings a wide range of Division III and junior college coaching experience to Duluth, including multiple head coaching stops and a strong track record of program building and player development. He most recently served as an assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, joining the Warhawks staff in the summer of 2024.
"We are excited to welcome Ben Davis to St. Scholastica," said Athletics Director Jessica Cherry. "Ben has demonstrated the ability to build programs, develop student-athletes, and compete for championships. His experience across multiple levels, including within the MIAC, makes him a great fit to lead our men's basketball program forward."
Prior to UW-Whitewater, Davis served as the head coach at Knox College from 2019-24, where he engineered a turnaround for the Prairie Fire. In his final season, Knox posted its first winning record in 19 years and achieved its highest win total in 24 years.
Davis also spent one season as the head coach at Green Mountain College in Vermont, where he led the Eagles to an 18-10 record and a Northeastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship in 2018-19. His team ranked first nationally in both scoring defense (62.0 points per game) and defensive field goal percentage (37.8%), while also producing the Association of Independent Institutions Defensive Player of the Year.
His first head coaching opportunity came at Dakota County Technical College in Minnesota, where he quickly elevated the program. After inheriting a 7-21 team, Davis led DCTC to a 23-8 record in his second season and a 20-12 mark in his final year, which included the program's first-ever appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament. He earned regional Coach of the Year honors and coached multiple All-Region and Academic All-American selections.
Davis has also held assistant coaching roles at Clarke University, Carleton College, and Macalester College. During his time at Carleton, the Knights compiled a 39-16 record, won a MIAC championship, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. His familiarity with the MIAC landscape adds valuable experience as St. Scholastica continues to compete in the conference.
"I am incredibly excited for the opportunity to lead the St. Scholastica men's basketball program," said Davis. "This is a special place with a strong academic tradition and a committed athletics department. I look forward to building relationships with our student-athletes and competing in the MIAC."
In addition to his collegiate experience, Davis spent a decade coaching with the Minnesota Fury AAU program, helping more than 60 players advance to the collegiate level.
Davis earned his bachelor's degree in developmental psychology with a minor in coaching education from the University of Minnesota in 2007 and completed his master's degree in coaching education from Ohio University in 2010.
Davis will begin his duties immediately as he prepares for the 2026-27 season.
