ST. PETER, Minn. – For the sixth time in program history and the first time since 2012, the Gusties are headed to the NCAA Division III Men's Hockey Tournament as playoff champions of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
Gustavus defeated St. Olaf, 2-1, in the 2025 MIAC Playoff Championship game Saturday night in St. Peter.
Following the game, Gustavus received the MIAC Playoff Championship plaque, Ed Saugestad Cup, and the Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Gustavus will learn its next opponent on Monday morning when the NCAA releases its 2025 national tournament field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sophomore forward Riku Brown scored both Gustie goals, evening the game at 1-1 midway through the second period and scoring an even-strength, game-winner two minutes into the final frame.
-St. Olaf got on the board first with a Tyler Green goal at 8:02 in the second period.
-Gustavus defender Kylar Fenton was credited with assists on both of the team's goals.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
-With the victory, Gustavus earned the MIAC's automatic qualifier to the 2025 NCAA Men's Hockey Tournament. This will be the Gusties' seventh trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history.
-The MIAC Playoff title is the sixth for Gustavus all-time, and the program's first since 2012.
-St. Olaf was No. 26 in the most recent NCAA Power Index (NPI), while Gustavus was No. 32. Fourteen teams will qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
