MIAC Athletes of the Week - September 2, 2025

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for volleyball, soccer, golf, and cross country on Tuesday. Student-athletes from Augsburg, Carleton, Macalester, Saint John's, Saint Mary's, and St. Olaf claimed the Conference's weekly honors.
 
The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the fall season, team sports (football, soccer, and volleyball) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (cross country and golf) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
Maren Miller

Maren Miller was named to the Pacific Coast Classic All-Tournament Team after recording 33 kills, 14 total blocks, and four aces while hitting .518 in the Oles' four matches on opening weekend. Miller had 13 kills and five blocks while hitting .600 in a five-set loss to No. 7-ranked La Verne on 8/29 before tallying 12 kills and four blocks with a .750 attack percentage in a sweep of Pomona-Pitzer the next day.

MIAC Volleyball Specialty Player of the Week

Jovial King collected 109 assists (9.08 per-set), 45 digs (3.75 per-set), and seven blocks (one solo), with two assist-dig double-doubles, in three matches for the Auggies at the St. Norbert Invitational on opening weekend. King claimed her first career 20-20 double-double on 8/29 with 25 assists and 22 digs in the Auggies' three-set loss to St. Norbert. King then set career highs with 40 assists and five blocks (one solo), while adding seven digs in Augsburg's five-set loss to Gallaudet. She set a new career-high a day later with 44 assists, in addition to 16 digs and two blocks (one solo), in the Auggies' four-set loss to Lawrence.

MIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

Carver Tierney scored four goals with an assist in a 7:20 span during the second half of the Auggies' 9-0 rout of Linfield on 8/31. Tierney, who totaled four goals with two assists for 10 points in 35 games in his prior three seasons combined at Mercyhurst and St. Thomas, doubled his career goal total with goals in the 48th, 49th, 52nd, and 55th minutes, while assisting on a goal in the 53rd minute.

Maple Grove, Minn. / Maple Grove

Beckett Carlson stopped all four shots he faced for the Oles in a 0-0 draw against the University of Chicago on 8/31. The sophomore made two saves in the opening 11-plus minutes and two more in the final 20-plus minutes to keep the Maroons off the board.

MIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Sam Munson

Plain City, Utah / St. Joseph

Sam Munson opened the 2025 campaign with three goals and a pair of assists as the Cardinals tallied wins over UM-Morris (8/29) and UW-Platteville (9/1). Munson scored the first two goals and assisted on the third in a 5-0 win over the Cougars to start the year before being credited with the game-winner on a penalty kick late in the second half of a 2-1 home win against the Pioneers. Munson also assisted on the opening goal of the game.

MIAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Avery Trapp

Avery Trapp went 1-0-1 with a 1.00 goals-against average to open the season for the Knights. Trapp recorded five saves with one goal allowed to help Carleton earn a 1-1 draw with No. 5-ranked Johns Hopkins in the season opener on 8/30 before adding another route-going effort the next morning, collecting another save and goal allowed in a 5-1 win over Carthage.

MIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

John Ihrke won the men's 5K race at the Ole Opener on 8/29. Ihrke covered the 5000-meter course in 15:59.4 and helped the Scots claim the team title at the meet for the third consecutive year. The win marks the first of Ihrke's collegiate cross country career and a more than 20-second improvement over his finish at last year's Ole Opener.

MIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Lauren Walda

Fort Wayne, Ind. / South Side

Lauren Walda won the women's 5K race at the Ole Opener on 8/29, helping the nationally-ranked Oles to a first-place team finish. Walda's time of 18:52.3 was the best in the field by nearly four seconds.

MIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week

Austin Roloff won his first collegiate tournament as the only golfer in the 66-player field to shoot under par at the Augsburg Inviational on 8/30-31. After bogeying the first hole of his collegiate career, Roloff carded 11 pars and five birdies, including three in a row on Nos. 13-15, to shoot a 3-under par 69 in the opening round. He carded a 2-over par 74 on 8/31 to finish with a weekend total of 143 (-1), two strokes ahead of a trio of golfers tied for second.

MIAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week
Bailey Lengfelder
Macalester College

Bailey Lengfelder won the CSB Invitational on 8/29-30 with a two-round score of 151 (+7), including a 1-over-par 73 on 8/30. Lengfelder's performance helped Macalester come back to win the team title after trailing by eight strokes heading into the final round. The individual title is Lengfelder's third medalist honor of her collegiate career.
