Concordia names Cora Zackrison head softball coach

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Athletic Director Rachel Bergeson announced that former Concordia student-athlete Cora Zackrison has been named the new head coach of the Cobber softball program.

Zackrison, who was a volunteer assistant with NCAA Division II MSU Moorhead last year, takes over for Annika Seedborg who stepped down last week to move back home to California to be closer to her family.

Zackrison becomes the ninth head coach in the history of the program which began in 1987.

"Cora understands our program from the inside out," Bergeson said. "Her experience as an alum, her background in college coaching and connections throughout the softball community position her well to lead our program. We are excited to welcome her back to Concordia."

Zackrison has developed a great deal of college softball coaching experience after graduating from Concordia in 2019. She went on to become a graduate assistant at the University of Jamestown where she earned her Master of Arts degree in leadership. Zackrison went on to be the assistant coach at the University of South Carolina-Beaufort before becoming the head coach at Northland College in Ashland, Wis. for two seasons.

"I'm excited to accept the position of head coach because this program has always meant a great deal to me," Zackrison stated. "From my time as a player to now, I've seen firsthand the potential this program has to be something truly special, and it's especially meaningful to me to be able to lead a place that played such an important role in my own journey."

Zackrison played for the Cobbers from 2016-19. She was a 4-year starter for Concordia and participated in 111 games over the course of her four years. Zackrison was the team's captain during her senior season in 2019.

"My goal is to build on the success that's already been established and continue pushing the program forward, with the aim of becoming a consistent force within the MIAC and across the region," Zackrison added.

Zackrison is currently the Director of Fastpitch and Player Development for the Fargo Area Sports Association.

Bergeson added that Zackrison will begin her head coaching duties immediately.
