News & Links 1/5/2026 1:00:00 PM MIAC Athletes of the Week - January 5, 2026 BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for basketball and hockey on Monday. Student-athletes from Augsburg, Concordia, Macalester, Saint John's, Saint Mary's, and St. Olaf claimed the Conference's weekly honors. The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the winter season, team sports (basketball and hockey) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (swimming & diving) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances. MIAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week Noah Shannon Macalester College Sr. | Forward Northfield, Minn. / New Trier Noah Shannon averaged 26.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game in a 1-1 week for the Scots. Shannon posted 23 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field in a narrow 78-73 loss to UW-Superior on 1/2 before pouring in 30 points while shooting 13-of-18 from the floor to lead the Scots to an 89-77 victory over Saint Mary's on 1/3 for the team's first MIAC win of the season. The latter was Shannon's fourth 30-point performance of the season. MIAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week Jackson Loge Concordia College Sr. | Forward Morris, Minn. / Morris Area Jackson Loge grabbed 12 rebounds in each of the Cobbers' three games over the holiday break. Loge also added four blocks and four steals in Concordia's games against Skidmore (12/29), Guilford (12/30), and St. Scholastica (1/3). The three 12-rebound games extended Loge's streak of double-digit rebound performances to five in a row. He added a steal against Skidmore, three steals and three blocks against Guilford, and another block against St. Scholastica. MIAC Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week Erin Schauer St. Olaf College Fy. | Forward Madison, Wis. / Edgewood Erin Schauer averaged 21.5 points per game while shooting 45.2 percent (14-for-31) from the field, 42.9 percent (6-for-14) from three-point range, and 81.8 percent (9-for-11) from the free-throw line in two games for the Oles over the holiday break. After scoring 14 points and coming away with six steals in a road loss at Bethany Lutheran on New Year's Eve, the first-year forward exploded for 29 points - including 24 in the second half - in a four-point loss at Carleton on 1/3. Her 29-point performance is the highest single-game point total by a St. Olaf women's basketball player in more than six seasons. MIAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week Maya Metcalf Concordia College So. | Forward West Fargo, N.D. / Sheyenne Maya Metcalf averaged 10.0 rebounds, 14.0 points, and 3.0 assists in three Cobber victories over the holiday break. Metcalf added six blocks and a steal on the defensive end to help Concordia improve to 10-1 on the year, giving the Cobbers their best start to a season since winning the NCAA Division III National Championship in 1988. After collecting six boards, two blocked shots, and a pair of steals in a win over Howard Payne on 12/28, Metcalf logged a season-high 15 rebounds to go along with another block in a two-point victory over Hardin-Simmons the following day. She then added nine boards, three blocks, and a steal in a decisive victory over St. Scholastica on 1/3 to hand the Saints their first loss of the season in conference play. MIAC Men's Hockey Offensive Player of the Week Nolan Nenow Augsburg University Fy. | Forward Jamestown, N.D. / Jamestown Nolan Nenow enjoyed a seven-point weekend with five goals and two assists, to lead the Auggies to a sweep of Lake Forest in a nonconference series on 1/2-3. Nenow collected his first collegiate hat trick on 1/2, scoring a goal in the second period and two goals in the third period of the Auggies' 8-4 victory. On 1/3, Nenow scored power-play and shorthanded goals, and assisted on two other tallies, in the Auggies' 10-2 victory. MIAC Men's Hockey Defensive Player of the Week Jon Howe Saint John's University Sr. | Goaltender Chanhassen, Minn. Jon Howe made 86 saves to lead the Johnnies to a sweep of nationally-ranked Trine on 1/2-3. Howe posted a save percentage of .956 with four goals allowed in the series. Two of the four goals came on power plays. Howe's save percentage of .933 on the season ranks second among all NCAA Division III goaltenders with at least 300 saves, while his goals-against average of 2.45 is eighth in the nation among D-III goalies with at least 600 minutes played. MIAC Women's Hockey Offensive Player of the Week Celia Midtbo Saint Mary's University Jr. | Defender Minneapolis, Minn. / Minneapolis Celia Midtbo scored her first three goals of the season in the second game of the Cardinals' sweep of UW-Stevens Point on 1/3. After recording two blocks and a +2 in the opening game of the weekend series on 1/2, Midtbo contributed all three goals in the team's 3-1 win on 1/3 while adding one more block to her stat line as well. The hat trick was the second of her collegiate career. MIAC Women's Hockey Defensive Player of the Week Audrey Abeln Saint Mary's University So. | Goaltender St. Charles, Mo. / Gilmour Academy Audrey Abeln earned a victory in the first start of her collegiate career, stopping 28 of 29 shots in the Cardinals' 3-1 win over UW-Stevens Point on 1/3. Abeln played all 60 minutes between the pipes and was also credited with the first assist of her career on the Cardinals' second goal of the game.
