MIAC hockey players rack up national honors

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – USCHO.com and DIIIHockeyNews.com have announced their postseason awards, with several Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) hockey players among the lists of honorees.
 
Saint Mary’s sophomore forward Joona Juntunen and junior defender Cole Mickel, along with Saint John’s senior goaltender Jon Howe were selected to the All-USCHO.com squad for NCAA Division III Men’s Hockey. Juntunen was a First Team pick, while Howe landed on the Second Team, and Mickel received Third Team honors. Juntunen and Mickel were also named to DIIIHockeyNews.com’s First Team All-America squad, while Howe and Gustavus first-year defender Ludvig Mellgren were Second Team picks.
 
Three MIAC men’s hockey first-year players were also named to the USCHO.com All-Rookie honorable mention team: Saint John’s first-year forward Carter Krenke, Gustavus first-year defender Ludvig Mellgren, and Saint Mary’s first-year goaltender Adam Prokop.
 
Hamline junior defender Abigail Chamernick and Saint Benedict first-year goaltender Lexi Badali were selected to DIIIHockeyNews.com’s First Team All-America lineup for women’s hockey. Badali – the Bennies’ first-ever All-American in women’s hockey – was also named to DIIIHockeyNews.com’s All-Rookie First Team.
