MIAC tennis players receive NCAA Championship invites

INDIANAPOLIS -- Seven tennis players from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) have been selected to compete in the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Tennis Individual Championships, the Association announced on Wednesday.

Bethel senior Lauryn Douglas and Gustavus sophomore Karina Elvestrom were among 32 players selected for the Women's Singles Championships, while Gustavus junior Kaya De Bruijn was named the sixth alternate for the event. Douglas and doubles partner Michaella Sullivan were also among the 16 tandems to qualify for the Women's Doubles Championships. Elvestrom and De Bruijn are slotted as second alternates for the Doubles Championships.

Gustavus teammates Gage Gohl and Dominik Knutson qualified to compete in the Men's Singles Championships, with Gohl and doubles partner Tyler Haddorff earning an invitation to the Doubles Championships. Gohl and Haddorff won the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Doubles Championship together in 2024.

The selection of teams and individuals for the NCAA Championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes. The NCAA team championship will take place May 19-22, while the individual championships will be May 23-26, both at Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and hosted by the University of the South and the City of Chattanooga.

The MIAC is represented in the team championship brackets by the conference regular-season and playoff champion Gustavus men's and women's tennis teams. The Gustie men began their quest for a national title on Thursday with a 4-0 sweep of Greenville. Gustavus will take on No. 10-ranked Kenyon in Chicago on Friday afternoon. The Gustavus women's team was selected to host its six-team regional, which begins on Friday in St. Peter. The Gusties have a bye to the second round and will face either UW-La Crosse or UW-Superior at 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
