MIAC Athletes of the Week - November 1, 2022

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for swimming & diving Tuesday. Student-athletes from Macalester, Saint John's, and St. Olaf claimed the Conference's weekly honors for October 25-31, 2022.

The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Transitioning from the fall to winter seasons, team sports (football, basketball, and hockey) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (swimming & diving) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week
Carter Larson
Saint John's University

Sartell, Minn. | Sartell-St. Stephen

Carter Larson won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.07 and took first place in two events - the 100- (48.60) and 1,000-yard (10:29.52) freestyles - in the Johnnies' dual with St. Cloud State on 10/28. All three times lead the MIAC this season.

MIAC Men's Diving Athlete of the Week

Eli Grabinski was the Johnnies' top diver in back-to-back meets last weekend. Grabinski placed third overall and first among NCAA Division III competitors off the 1-meter (240.45) and 3-meter (216.25) boards in SJU's dual with St. Cloud State on 10/28. The following day against Macalester, Grabinski won both events with a 254.60 off the 1-meter and a 266.20 off the 3-meter.


MIAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week

Skye Schmit won two individual events to help the Scots defeat Saint Benedict, 147-95, on 10/29. Schmit won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.16 and placed first in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:25.80. She then helped the 400-yard freestyle relay team win with a time of 3:45.43.

MIAC Women's Diving Athlete of the Week
Izzy Treanor
St. Olaf College

Minneapolis, Minn. | Wayzata

Izzy Treanor opened her season by winning the 1-meter diving (435.05) and finishing third in the 3-meter diving (379.30) at the Cows, Colleges, and Contentment Classic on 10/29. The junior won the 1-meter diving by more than 15 points and was the top finisher among NCAA Division III divers in the 3-meter event.
